I'm making a custom roof rack for my Jeep Cherokee? So since my tires are nearing the end of their life, when I buy new ones, I'm going to buy a full set of five thirty inchers. The previous owner bought four twenty-nines, so I haven't had to worry about a place to put my spare, but when I get the new set, I'll need a spot and I don't feel like putting it in the back, so my plan is to build myself a custom roof rack. I have some general ideas, but I'm not big into plans, I just make it up as I go along. My question is, should I attach my roof rack to the current crossbars I have, or should I make a custom hookup that will connect to the runners on the roof of the car and discard the crossbars? I guess if you have a legit, store bought one, what do those do?
Can a roof rack be installed on a 2008 Jeep Liberty that has the "SkyRider" retractable sunroof? I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty Limited Edition with the SkyRider roof. Check out http://www.jeep.com/en/2008/liberty/ Thule and Yakima cannot fit this vehicle with their online fit guide. I have been to Mopar.com, but since the Liberty Sport and Limited Edition can be made with or without the retractable sunroof, I don't know if what is available through them is compatible with the sunroof? Am I S.O.L? Has anyone seen a roof rack on this vehicle? I have a pair of kayaks and no way to transport.
How do I securely strap a mattress and box spring to the roof of my jeep? I am moving from TN to VA. It will be an 11 hour drive. I plan on taking my mattress and box spring with me so I do not have to purchase one there. I do not have a roof rack and the mattress and box spring are in a box. I would get a trailer but do not have a hitch and do not want to purchase anything expensive. If anyone knows how to securely strap it down please let me know, and if anyone else has any inexpensive ideas to get it there. Thank you!

Best soft surf rack to use for Jeep Wrangler? I'm trying to save some money so instead of buying a roof rack I thought I'd buy a soft rack for my Jeep. 1994 Jeep Cherokee or 1989 Honda Accord? The Jeep has 4 doors, 4 wheel drive, manual locks/windows, roof racks, bigger trunk space, the seats are in good shape, a nice stereo system with mp3 and player, new tires, and gets 17.4 mpg. The Honda is a 2 door, 2 wheel drive, manual locks/windows, the driver's seat is torn, a stereo system with cd player, 2 new tires, hits overdrive when it hits 50 mph so it feels like its missing until it hits 55 to 60 (depends on the day), and gets around 22 mpg. Please help, I have no idea which to pick. My dad is an auto trader, so he bought both cars for me...I've had the Honda for 2 months, and he brought home the Jeep last week. So it's kind of a situation where I have to pick the "best" one, you know?

Does Jeep have any plans for this Willys 2 concept? http://www.diseno-art.com/encyclopedia/concept_cars/jeep_willys_2.html I think this would be a great car - It'd be nice with a roof rack able to haul a few 4x8 panel-size but it looks like a pretty tight ride and reasonable compared to some further 'out there' concepts I've seen it's a bit reminiscent of the Toyota FJ cruiser and those seem to be selling well the thing I DON'T like about the Toyota is that it doesn't seem very functional beyond hauling a couple butts and bikes - the Willys concept seems to have a bit more fun-ctionality in mind, like a Jeep should :)
Looking for a bike rack and need reviews first.? I own a 2003 Jeep Liberty with a full size spare tired on the back with a cover over the tire. I am looking for a bike rack that will hold 2 mountain bikes in a sturdy fashion. I looked into the roof rack option but kind of want to avoid it. It just isn't very practical to lift 2 bikes upside down over my head and place them on top of my Jeeps roof. I'd like to hear from people as far as what you have and what works and what doesn't. Thanks for helping out.
Most important Off-Roading modifications for Jeep Wrangler? I own a 97 TJ Wrangler Sahara Edition. I have all of these things already added from the original: 3.5" Rubicon Short arm suspension, 1.5" body lift kit, a Warn Rock Crawler front bumper, rear bumper and tire carrier, a couple extra lights, 35" mickey thompson MTZs on MT classic wheels. I need to know what to do next. I know i need to get a winch and add to the front bumper, but should i just get the warn winch mount plate and grill guard or should I get a whole new bumper. If so what bumper do you recommend. Im some what hesitant to get a new bumper because my front and back currently match. Is a warn winch really worth getting over another decent brand? I only wheel every other weekend (at most) so i don't use it all the time. Im also thinking about larger fender flares because i have wide tires so i get a lot of mud and water and rocks kicked up. What do you think about this? Is there anything else that is important or nice to get? For example a dual battery set up, exhaust system, lockers, snorkel, seat covers, roof rack, steering stabilizers?? and so on for all you educated folk. Please keep in mind I do drive this at least 15 miles a day so im not going to get more of a lift or larger tires. And for ideas sakes money is not an issue but if you have any money saving tips let me know. Thanks so much! Planning a trip..HELP!? So I am planning a trip and I was wondering how much weight is "OK" on top of a car. I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Charokee and the roof rack is factory.
Attaching multiple Kayaks to a car? Any experience with this?? I had to trade my Jeep Grand Cherokee in this year because of the rediculous $$ of my payment & gas. I leased a 2008 Jetta & purchased the roof rack attachments from the dealer (they run from door to door, no side pieces) I have 2 kayaks - one fits into the J rack which can be installed on one side with plenty of room to place the other one flat on blocks (It is a Native Ultimate 12 has a "tunnel hull" & wont fit in the J rack - http://kayakfishingstuff.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Ultimate12-08&Category_Code=nativekayaks) Not having the rack connections that run from hood to trunk, how am I going to ensure these kayaks aren't going to rip off the top of my car? The engine is covered underneath w/ 2 places to insert a hook to tie down the front end, but under the trunk there is no place to tie the back down. Does anyone have these type of racks that can suggest a way to secure these? Should I find an attachment that runs from front to back? Thanks
To keep the car, or not to keep the car...that is the question.? So I have a 96 honda accord ex. its pretty nice, leather, sun roof, whatnot. Trade in value is $3000 and I owe $4800 on it still. A friend of ours who owns a car lot has this sweet Jeep grand cherokee (also leather, moon roof, rack, 4wd) that he will sell me for $5000. He said that he will give me the $3000 for trade in, soooo my predicament is should I go back into debt $6800? Or should I keep my car? I could use the 4wd on my commute to work. I have replaced 2 tires just this year from flat tires and broken tire belts. (my drive is FULL of pot holes and eff-ed up roads) I am TOTALLY worried about the recession, the fact that my hubby is still in school and it is only my income, my looming credit card debt ($2500) My husband would feel safer if i got this suv, but I don't like making big decisions. So, I'd rather ask the yahoo community to please aid in my decision. PLEASE HELP!!! So, after talking to a few friends, one has NEVER had any issues with his 98 grand cherokee (like the 1 i want) and another has only had minor issues. I am just afraid of the debt. Thanks 4 all of ur answers! =)
What is your dream car? pretend they're all zero emissions, for the sake only of design, not engineering? so even a greenie could even say "an H3!" if it doesn't exist, then feel free to describe some characteristics I think mine would be like an H3 & dune-buggy love child, but two door, that could still easily haul a few 4x8's, with a couple 220V outlets, generator type thing, like an old Willys jeep sortof, still easy to seat four - that new toyota jeepy one is close but it's a bit frou frou and roof racks blow
Is this a good deal on a car? '99 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L 139k miles new tires 4 wheel drive, pw, pl, roof rack Green- exterior looks almost new. i live in montana so take snow into account. haha i forgot the most important part 2grand

I'm thinking about buying a jeep wrangler but i wnat to know some pros and cons? I like the look of the wrangler and the fact that you can drive with the roof, doors, and even the windshild down. But i also kind of need some storage room just to haul around aleast 3 snowboards and camping gear, with 3 people in the vehicle. So is there enough space in these wranglers for that, or is there a overhead rack you can buy but still be able to put the roof up and down. Also i would like to buy it in manual transmition, getting to the point, what is the MPG for these things? Also, i would like to know any pros or cons worth mentioning. Also what model would be the best for all this?
someone please find me this bike rack!? i have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee and i recently got into mtn biking. I saw this bike rack that straps to the back of the grand cherokee and i would rather have that than a hitch bike rack (due to the fact i'd have to buy a hitch). I also do not want a roof bike rack. Please help me find this bike rack online! I found it once and since then cannot find it. Again my grand cherokee is a 2000. First to provide me with the url of a bike rack of this nature at a decent price will be rewarded best answer. thanks.
Looking for a car bike rack? Looking for a bike rack for my Jeep Cherokee. Either a hitch mount, trunk/hatch or roof - doesn't matter. What are some good options, preferably not too pricey. Links would be useful for a best answer
So, what's your Hunting Vehicle? ? This is one of the questions I don't think I've ever seen in the Hunting section, or if it was posted I missed it. My main hunting vehicle is a 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4.0. The XJ square body, not a Grand. It was my main ride for a few years but now that it's been replaced by a new sedan for work and around town, I've been making it more suitable for the real rough back-country of the Southwest mountains. I ripped out all the upholstery behind the front seats and sprayed it with Rhino liner and added a few drain holes so it can be hosed out. I added an equipment box where the rear seat well was and permanent lockable gun rack on the inside roof for four rifles. Did some power train mods and lifted it a modest 2.5 inches, so I could stuff some large tires under her for added traction and ground clearance. Added a hitch and some tow hooks and some recovery gear. Then there the Sony CD player and amp for some ear-pounding metal, to get you in the mood during that cold 3am drive. At my place in the country I keep an old 81 Dodge step-side pickup that has seen better days but that Slant 6 keeps on smoking along. It's mostly for getting firewood but I'll take it to pick up a deer as long as we are not going in rough country. So, do you have a dedicated hunting vehicle or are you just using the pickup? Gotta love those Jeep XJ bodies. This is my second, the 84 lasted 16 years and over 235k. Forgot about the 2 way also. I have the stock steel wheels with 31x10.5s on them. With the 2.5 in lift, they do rub some. Rather than lift higher, I'm likely just going to take the Sawz-all to the fenders. Boots are not vehicles my fellow hunters. Do you hunt outside your back door? If so, lucky you. Some of us actually drive to the hunt, that was the question. BTW: Danner's, 12 EE. Love em.
I need car help, should I buy this car? I'm want to give my mom my '01 Jeep Cherokee because it wastes too much gas for my work (about 60miles a day) it's a V6. I found a cool used sedan or coupe for $12,000 at a dealer, I don't know too much about cars like 2.7L engine(huh?) So I was wondering if this was a good car or not. Here are the things I want to know about, if its good or not: make and model: 2003 Kia Optima SE V6 4D Sedan what's "SE" about it, is it the moon roof? -2.7L Engine WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? -6 Cylinders(will this waste as much gas as my jeep?) -2WD FRONT -EPA Mileage 20(city)/27(highway) IS THIS BETTER THAN THE JEEP? -181 Torque@4000rpm -170 Horsepower@6000rpm -Steering Column, Energy Absorbing HUH? -Steering, Power Rack and Pinion Here are some picture links: http://carmax.com/MultiImages/KNAGD128435219866/KNAGD128435219866-1.jpg http://carmax.com/MultiImages/KNAGD128435219866/KNAGD128435219866-3.jpg
ladder rack for Jepp? can't rememeber where I got mine, originally it was on a '92 chevy van....a better alternative to this is purchase the foam for carrying canoes....it's supposed to clip over the rails of the canoe and the flat part sits on your roof but what I do is slide them onto the racks of my jeep and set the ladder on top cheaper, looks better and faster
